Dear Members

We are pleased to inform you that GAASA had a fruitful meeting, today, with the Sri Amariah, Dy Commr, GHMC Alwal Circle to take stock of the representations made by GAASA to GHMC over a period of time. Please see the attachment for the subjects which were discussed. We spent one hour with the Dy Commr who was also accompanied by Sri Sripathi Reddy, Dy EE GHMC. Should say that we got all our problems discussed.GAASA and GHMC set reasonable deadlines for getting the proposals addressed. The Dy Commr was proactive and got few reachable problems addressed immediatly by contacting his officials immediately and summoning them to his office. The problems and the solutions and further action which GAASA needs to take will be discussed amongst us during this month's meeting scheduled on 28th Dec.

We need to embark on a massive membership drive so that we could achieve more with collective action. Members are requested to contact their own welfare associations which could be our extended arms in this work.Hope to contact more sister organisations who have common cause problems.

Yours truly

ALLIED SERVICE ASSOCIATION (GAASA)

REGISTRATION No. 363 / 1987  1-11-90 Golnaka Alwal Secunderabad. 500 010

Greater Alwal Allied Service Association” or “GAASA” was formed by residents of Alwal in 1987. In the past GAASA pursued the authorities concerned with various issues of common interest affecting the residents of Greater Alwal (comprising the Ex-Panchayats forming the Alwal Municipality viz: Alwal, Yapral, Kowkoor, Turkapally etc). GAASA achieved for itself the reduction of Water Cess rates and property taxes, improved frequency of bus services to Alwal from various depots and got connected interior areas of Alwal to bus services, got erected two 33 KV Sub-Stations thereby bringing down the power interruptions leading to improved voltage, got diverted the effluents flowing into Alwal from cantonment areas, sanitary conditions were got improved, a telegraph office was got established on MR Krishna Road etc.

With the dawn of monsoon of the year 2007, a new team was formed wherein, the youth and the experienced elders came together. This unique blending is expanding with more members joining the forum of GAASA for making Alwal a better place to live in.

Within one year of the new team coming together, GAASA was able to convince the GHMC Alwal Circle to remove the garbage dumping ground from the precincts of a residential area and also put together the GHMC Alwal and HUDA to clean the Alwal Lake and develop it as a lake park. Several empty Government lands were protected by putting up compound walls around them to keep land grabbers away. Further a new sports complex at Golnaka Alwal, as a pilot project, was created out of a vacant land with facilities to play volley ball, throw ball, badminton etc. GAASA is actively pursuing the South Central Railway to renovate the Alwal Railway Station. With the aid of the orders from The Hon’ble High Court of Andhra Pradesh, GAASA is now pursuing the establishment of an e-library. GHMC Alwal with regard to GAASA got into action of providing streetlights on the Old Satya Talkies – Venkatapuram road. Further HUDA has accepted the request of GAASA to provide Green Cover to our Alwal Area and the monsoon of 2008 would see lot of plantations. Further GAASA is involving the residents to maintain sanitation, streetlights and parks to complement the efforts of GHMC Alwal Circle.

We at GAASA feel that the time and situation now demands that the collective strength of the residents needs to be further expanded. The need now is, for you, to put in your best efforts to support GAASA, for a combined and selfless effort to help Greater Alwal grow to be a model suburb and the Jewel in the Crown of Greater Hyderabad.
